Ex-detective joins Binance as Director of Audit and Investigations
Aron Akbiyikian is a former detective who specializes in forensic analysis of digital media has joined Binance as the new director of audit and investigation.
Aron Akbiyikian will work to ensure the safety of Binance users and the crypto industry.
The crypto exchange said that Akbiyikian will work on identifying bad actors who attempt to take advantage of Binance’s platform and monitoring their movements to help authorities take them down.
Prior to joining the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, Akbiyikian worked as investigations manager at blockchain data platform Chainalysis. He was also a detective in Mariposa County, California, where he focused on financial crime investigations, digital forensics, and cybercrime.
From March to August 2021, Akbiyikian also served as public sector deployment strategist for TRM Labs, a blockchain intelligence solutions provider that enables organizations to detect frauds and financial crimes.
Making the world a safer place
Akbiyikian has more than 10 years of experience in forensic analysis and criminal investigation. He was involved in a number of high-profile cases, which include that the “Welcome To Video,” a site on the darknet where users share child exploitation videos or pay in Bitcoin (BTC) to access illicit materials.
“Anytime we work to remove the worst elements of the world from the crypto ecosystem, we are helping secure the entire space. No one wants to be associated with the perpetrators of heinous crimes, and getting them out of crypto keeps crypto users safe from being inadvertently associated with them,” Akbiyikian said. “At the same time crypto users can feel safer that they and their loved ones are less likely to be victims of certain crimes, because of the efforts of many dedicated individuals that are trying to make the crypto space, and the world, safer.”
Akbiyikian said that he retired from law enforcement after sustaining serious injuries from a helicopter event. He underlined that he still considers himself fortunate because he can still continue to help make the world a better place after he joined the crypto world.
