Heroes of NFT is Integrating Chainlink VRF to Help Power WarFactory Item Generation
Heroes NFT is excited to announce that Heroes of NFT, a turn-based collectible trading card game with a unique play 2 earn mechanism is integrating Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on the Avalanche blockchain. By integrating the industry-leading decentralized oracle network, they can obtain access to a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness needed to generate random ERC1155 items that can be used in game as power-ups. Ultimately this creates a more exciting, transparent, and fraud-proof user experience, as users can trust the real item generation process.
Heroes of NFT redefines the trading card game concept. Players will be able to participate in a real economy. They’ll gain and spend game currency in exchange for valuable assets. Moreover those assets have utility i.e will determine the game pace. Also these assets are tradable with real value.
In order to provide fair and secure item generation, they need access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit. However, RNG solutions for smart contracts require several security considerations to prevent manipulation and ensure system integrity. For instance, RNG solutions derived from blockchain data like block hashes can be exploited by miners/validators, while off-chain RNG solutions derived from off-chain APIs are opaque and don’t provide users with definitive proof about the integrity of the process.
After reviewing various solutions, they selected Chainlink VRF because it’s based on cutting-edge academic research, supported by time-tested oracle infrastructure, and secured through the generation and on-chain verification of cryptographic proofs that prove the integrity of each random number supplied to smart contracts.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The Heroes of NFT WarFactory smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides their users with automated and verifiable assurances directly on-chain that WarFactory is provably fair and was not tampered with by the oracle, outside entities, or the Heroes of NFT team.
Fair and tamper proof item generation is crucial for such a game that values the game items. The effects of a possible exploitation of on-chain random generation would directly impact the economy that Heroes of NFT is building. For that they planning to use Chainlink VRF on their future value-critical applications.
