Binance Name Service Integrates Chainlink VRF

Published on: 05.07.2022

Binance Name Service integrates Chainlink VRF on BNB Chain mainnet to help power random domain name NFT draws.

By integrating the industry-leading decentralized oracle network, we now have access to a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness needed to help generate BNS domain name NFTs. Ultimately this creates a more exciting and transparent user experience, as users can participate in the domain NFT reward pool with high assurances of a random selection process.

BNS aims to achieve widespread adoption of domain names across wallets, BscScan, cross-chain bridges, exchanges, dApps, and Web3. In order to generate provably fair and verifiable random BNS domains in the reward pool, BNS needed access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit.

Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The BNS smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof.

About Chainlink

Chainlink is the industry standard for building, accessing, and selling oracle services needed to power hybrid smart contracts on any blockchain. Chainlink oracle networks provide smart contracts with a way to reliably connect to any external API and leverage secure off-chain computations for enabling feature-rich applications. Chainlink currently secures tens of billions of dollars across DeFi, insurance, gaming, and other major industries, and offers global enterprises and leading data providers a universal gateway to all blockchains.

About Binance Name Service

Binance Name Service is a scalable, distributed, open-domain system based on the BNB Chain, with a shared rewards model. For example, Binance Name Service has recently made a strategic cooperation with the top K-line platform AVE, where you can see your BNS in AVE’s transaction history, holders, capital flow, and transactions. Binance Name Service is a social and expressive identity public chain infrastructure.

BNS mainly serves convenient domain name mapping definitions. BNS helps convert long and complicated wallet addresses into short and understandable domains. It can use its parsing and anti-parsing functions in wallets, BscScan, cross-chain bridges, exchange, dApp, dWeb, and so on. By then, we will cover 90% of BNB Chain user scenarios and let all Binance users obtain their own short domain names to seamlessly connect with all scenarios.
