Kotani Pay Brings Blockchain Technology To African Refugee Camp

Published on: 18.04.2021

A strategic partnership between service provider Kotani Pay, Refugee Integration Organisation (RIO) and fintech startup Impact Market to allow transfer of payments to African refugees.

The Kenya-based digital currency service provider will use the Celo blockchain to enable the transfer of universal basic income (UBI) payments to support 5,000 refugees.

The use of blockchain technology will allow safety, security and transparency to ensure that payments are received by the intended recipients.

An innovation that is considered as the first of its kind, and with the largest refugee camp in the world.
