What is Polkadot in simple terms?

It is designed to ensure that the main chain can be upgraded with minimal downtime while providing the ability for developers to write custom consensus algorithms and gas mechanisms.

The platform includes parachains and parathreads. Which links to the main Polkadot Relay Chain and can also connect with external networks through bridges.
Is Polkadot better than Ethereum?
Polkadot is a high-performance, scalable blockchain network that can handle over 1000 transactions per second with enterprise-grade security. In comparison, Ethereum supports 13-30 transactions per second most of the time and up to 150 during peak periods. It’s also far cheaper to send DOT comparing to ETH at the moment.
Why is Polkadot so popular?
Polkadot is attracting attention from investors because it will allow developers to link blockchains to the Polkadot system. Developers can create new blockchains, even linking them together into what’s known as a “heterogeneous multi-chain.” This gives Polkadot technology great potential for expansion and use.
