  • 1. “Why will the number of collators be reduced in Darwinia 2.0 compared to the number of validators in Darwinia 1.0?”

In Darwinia 1.0, the Darwinia solo chain is independent, with its own consensus, which relies on validators and value at stake to guarantee the economic security of the system; and too few of those validators increase the degree to which the Darwinia Network is centralized.

Darwinia 2.0, however, will be secured by the Polkadot Relay Chain validators, so will not require its own consensus model with value at stake.

Instead, collators will maintain Darwinia 2.0 by aggregating transactions into parachain block candidates, and producing state transition proofs for Relay Chain validators based on those blocks. Unlike validators, collators do not secure the network. If a Darwinia 2.0 block is deemed invalid, it will be rejected by Relay Chain validators. As a result, a collators’ responsibility is significantly reduced.

Actually, a single collator is sufficient for Darwinia 2.0 to function as a parachain, and while redundancy of collators is beneficial for reliability and stability, it does not result in increased performance, or enhance the security of the Polkadot network.

Overall, the number of collators in Darwinia 2.0 will be quite a bit smaller than the number of validators in Darwinia 1.0.

  • 2. “How many collators will be in Darwinia 2.0?”

They are expecting that around 1/3 of the previous number of validators will be required.

No. The 20% is not final and may ultimately need to be decided by a vote. The current general opinion of the community is ≥ 30%.

According to calculations, collator income won’t decrease considerably because there will be fewer collators than validators. With the same commission, a collator’s income will likely be higher than a validator’s.

  • 4. “How are the delegator’s rewards calculated?”

totalStaking is the collator’s total backing.

This is only the current approach in order to simplify the staking system and make bugs less likely at the beginning. You can still choose more than one collator actually, it’s just a little more complicated. To begin with, using several accounts will allow you to select more than one collator.

In the near future, the staking system will allow for the selection of multiple collators by a single account.

  • 6. “In the case of selecting only one collator, if the collator suddenly raises the commission, what should I do, can I change to another collator, and is there a waiting period when I change the collator?”

Yes, you can switch to a different collator without any delay.

Connect MetaMask To Darwinia Smart Chain

1. Add the RPC automatically

  • Go to https://docs.darwinia.network/ and click the “Connect Wallet” on the right upper corner, then you can see the RPC configuration parameters of Darwinia Smart Chain
  • Click and then the corresponding network RPC adds automatically.

2. Add the RPC manually

  • This part will guide you through the process of connecting your MetaMask wallet to Darwinia Smart Chain
  • If you do not already have MetaMask installed, you can install the extension from the Chrome store. For help with installation, you can follow the Getting Started with MetaMask guide from the official MetaMask documentation. Once you have installed the MetaMask extension, follow the account creation wizard. Make sure to store your mnemonic safely and do not share it with anyone. When MetaMask is fully set up, your Darwinia Smart Chain address is displayed at the top of the extension window.
  • Once you have an account, you can add Darwinia Smart Chain as a network and connect to it by clicking on the network dropdown and selecting “Add Network”.

To add Darwinia Smart Chain, you can enter configurations below:

Chain ID: 46
Currency Symbol(Optional): RING

Then click “Save” to connect to Darwinia Smart Chain.

The Darwinia has achieved another milestone on the 1230 runtime update — Darwinia Smart Chain, which provides a development environment that is fully compatible with Ethereum. This compatibility enables EVM Dapp developers can easily migrate and deploy existing contract projects to DarwiniaSmart Chain and connected with Polkadot Ecosystem through minimum modification, meanwhile, we’ve successfully used Darwinia’s light-client cross-chain messaging protocol(LCMP) to bridge cross-chain messages between substrate-based chains, and even between substrate-based chains and EVM chains. This will have profound implications for cross-chain interoperability, and Darwinia will as a cross-chain messaging infrastructure to prompt the building of a hybrid cross-chain network for Polkadot.

Introduction of the Darwinia Chains

Darwinia Network(Darwinia) contains three chains, namely Darwinia Chain(DC), Darwinia Smart Chain(DSC), and Darwinia Parachain(DP). DC and DSC provide two sets of different interfaces and chain structures but share the same nodes network, state storage, and native token.

The Darwinia Chain

Darwinia Chain (DC) is designed to be the primary chain for tokens and governance, the main communication hub and routing point of LCMP, and will support most on-chain light clients for other public chains.

DC is a public chain that can operate independently with its own consensus and security model, with its core business and application services, including cross-chain functionality of each application chain, controlled by DC itself.

The Darwinia Smart Chain

Darwinia Smart Chain (DSC) is a full EVM-compatible smart contract platform hosted on DC and is designed to provide greater programmability for Dapps and cross-chain users. Ethereum ecosystem projects can be easily migrated to Darwinia Network.

DSC does not have its own economy.

The Darwinia Parachain

Darwinia Parachain (DP) is designed to be protected by the shared security of the Polkadot Relay Chain. It will integrate Polkadot’s XCMP, open channels with other parachains, and connect to DC via LCMP. Darwinia Network has won the 21st Polkadot parachain slot and will be connected to Polkadot Relay Chain very soon.
