Yield Guild Games (YGG) continues to expand its in-game asset collection by acquiring NFT Packs in CyBall.

Cyball is a football-themed (soccer), NFT-based play-to-earn game where players can collect, trade, mentor, and battle CyBlocs, which are fantasy cyborg characters represented as collectible and tradable NFTs on the blockchain.

YGG has invested in CyBall and acquired part of the initial Genesis CyBloc NFT packs, which will enable YGG to equip at least 1,000 CyBall scholars. In addition to this, YGG Co-Founder, Gabby Dizon will also be an advisor to CyBall.

Jeff Holmberg, Head of Investments at YGG, describes CyBall as “an exciting cross between Football Manager and Pokémon, with four different game modes to attract both casual and competitive players with a fun game flow and play-to-earn mechanics that offer players multiple ways to earn.”

“In addition to this, CyBall also offers automated scholarship-type loans called “CyLoans”, which will provide even more earning opportunities to YGG scholars,” he added.

CyBlocs come in five different classes, each with an increasing overall skill rating and rarity. Players train their CyBlocs to compete in various game modes with varying levels of rewards. Existing CyBlocs can also mentor young CyBlocs, creating the next generation of unique NFTs. Mentoring allows experienced CyBlocs (at least five days old) to mentor junior CyBlocs (new NFTs freshly minted on the blockchain), potentially passing on their classes and traits in the process. To avoid significant inflation, each eligible CyBloc can only mentor up to three new CyBlocs in total and only once every five days. Users may choose to mentor using one or two CyBlocs at a time.

Traits are inherent abilities that CyBlocs are born with and are independent of classes. These traits can affect a multitude of areas from gameplay mechanics, to potential rewards and are stackable should a CyBloc have multiple traits of similar or related effects.

CyBlocs also possess footballing skills such as tackling, passing, dribbling, crossing, shooting, and physical. All CyBlocs are born with a base rating (level 1) for each skill, which is randomly generated based on their class. A CyBloc is given one free skill point at every level (including level 1) up until level 100 (max level).

The CyBall match engine determines the winner through a series of key events that occur throughout the match. Key events may be Solo events or Tandem events (two CyBlocs from each team). Each Key event consists of the participating CyBlocs competing against each other in one or two of their six footballing skills. Each Key event will result in either a goal for either team, or a draw (no goals).

CyBall incorporates two tokens: CYB (CyBall Token) and CBT (CyBloc Battery Token), which play an important role in the CyBall ecosystem. The CYB token is a governance token that can be earned from special rewards for competing in League and Tournament PVP modes, as well as staking rewards. CBT acts as the game’s play-to-earn reward token that can be earned while competing in various PVP modes (Exhibition, League, and Tournament). These tokens can be utilized to enjoy various in-game and ecosystem features, and also to mentor new CyBlocs.

Initially, the game will launch on Binance Smart Chain, with immediate plans to launch on Solana as soon as the game is ready to create a dual-chain gaming environment.
