Monster Racing League Integrates Chainlink VRF To Help Power Randomized NFT Container Mints

Published on: 18.06.2022

A Play-2-Earn multiplayer racing game that combines skill and strategy, Monster Racing League (MRL) is excited to announce that they are integrating Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on Polygon mainnet for the upcoming mint.

Firstly, Through this integration, MRL now has access to a verifiable and tamper-proof random number generator.  To help ensure all users have a fair and equal chance of receiving an extra ability when they mint Containers in the upcoming public mint on July 1st.

MRL is developed by Flightless and supported by Phat Loot. Flightless is an indie game development studio in New Zealand. With numerous awards and games such as Doomsday Vault available on iOS and Apple devices. As well as Phat Loot are creators of Untamed Isles, Guppy Gang NFT and Paradise Wars.

In addition MRL is an auto-racing game where monsters drive themselves while players actively use abilities to disrupt their opponents. Also MRL requires strategy in choosing a monster to fit your style of play, skill at the correct time. To explore the full breakdown of its game, read litepaper.

To take part in the game, a Monster is required. The only way you will be able to get one is through the upcoming Container mint. In the mint, each user will receive the following NFTs, all bundled into the Monster Container:

  • An Origin Monster with unique traits and rarity. Monsters are your drivers and you will need one to play the game. They can also be bred together to create new monster. Which inherit visuals and performance traits from their parents.

  • An Origin Vehicle cosmetic. Each cosmetic has a different rarity and appearance.

  • 1–2 tribe abilities. Abilities are equipped before the race begins. Used to disrupt opponents at the most opportune time to give you an advantage in the race.

Boost Pack. A pack contains consumable cards that can give you an edge in the race by boosting speed, increasing handling, or reducing damage/cooldowns

  • A chance to mint an ultra-rare Legendary Track.

Once the mint has finished, owners will be able to unlock their Containers and reveal the contents. With each Container providing users with the chance to mint an extra ability. MRL want to ensure that every minter has a fair chance at receiving these NFTs in their mint Container. That’s why they chose Chainlink VRF to help mint their Containers using verifiable randomness, giving users stronger assurances that they have an equitable chance of minting the rarest and most valuable NFTs.

In order to support this function, MRL required a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit. However, on-chain RNG solutions like block hashes introduce vulnerabilities where miners can choose to publish a block only when it would generate more favorable results for themselves. On the other hand, off-chain RNG solutions are opaque, requiring users to trust that the centralized data provider won’t manipulate the results to their benefit.

Indeed Chainlink VRF solves the issue of providing secure and verifiable on-chain randomness by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The MRL smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof. This helps provide users with automated and publicly verifiable proof directly on-chain.

“Chainlink VRF is the industry standard for a verifiable, on-chain randomness solution. It’s a simple and secure way for projects to provide their users with assurances that the randomness underlying a specific smart contract function is fair and tamper-proof. This is important for our Monster Racing League game as it helps increase the decentralization and transparency of our game.” — John O’Reilly, Founder of Monster Racing League

About Chainlink

Chainlink is the industry standard for building, accessing, and selling oracle services needed to power hybrid smart contracts on any blockchain. Chainlink oracle networks provide smart contracts. With a way to reliably connect to any external API and leverage secure off-chain computations for enabling feature-rich applications. Lastly currently secures tens of billions of dollars across DeFi, insurance, gaming, and other major industries. Also offers global enterprises and leading data providers a universal gateway to all blockchains.
