UXD is issued on Solana, an incredibly fast, cheap, and permissionless blockchain. In addition, UXD is a next-generation decentralize stablecoin that integrates with top derivative trading exchanges on Solana in order to create a “delta-neutral” position that collateralizes the stablecoin.

Its first derivative dex is Mango Markets. Through UXD’s construct, they are able to solve the “stablecoin trilemma“, allowing UXD to be stable, capital efficient, and decentralized. Moreover, the stablecoin has native yield from the “funding rate” of the perpetual futures position it puts on, allowing UXD stakeholders to generate yield as a result.

How does UXD differ from “algorithmic” stablecoins?

• Stable: The goal of a stablecoin is to keep a direct peg to a non-crypto asset like US Dollars. If a stablecoin wildly fluctuates above or below this peg, it is fundamentally not very useful.

Simplicity reduces engineering overhead, which in turn means we can spend our time working on new features instead of re-creating existing ones. Optimism prefers to use existing battle-tested Ethereum code and infrastructure where possible. The most visible example of this philosophy in practice is the choice to use Geth as Optimism’s client software.

Optimism is an “Optimistic Rollup,” which is basically just a fancy way of describing a blockchain that piggy-backs off of the security of another “parent” blockchain. Specifically, Optimistic Rollups take advantage of the consensus mechanism (like PoW or PoS) of their parent chain instead of providing their own. In Optimism’s case, this parent blockchain is Ethereum.

Optimism is an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain that provides a scaling solution for DApps and transactions. It also uses optimistic rollups where multiple transactions are bundles and settle on the main Ethereum blockchain. As a result, each transaction is automatically assumed to be valid, streamlining the process.

Validators have a week to flag any rollup if they believe it contains invalid transactions. For the user, Optimism reduces gas fees and provides a quicker alternative than dealing directly with Ethereum.

How Optimism governance work

The Optimism Collective and Optimism Foundation work together in funding projects and public goods through Optimism’s governance mechanism. Holders of the ERC-20 OP token gain voting rights on proposals and the token will be airdrop to addresses that have engage in positive community behavior.
