But before a new idea, feature, or application goes live on a mainnet, it must first be tested — rigorously and securely. That’s where Testnets come in.

What Exactly is a Testnet?

A Testnet (short for test network) is a blockchain environment that replicates the real blockchain (mainnet) but uses valueless tokens and operates independently. It allows developers, users, and projects to experiment with blockchain functionalities without any risk to real funds.

Think of it as a sandbox — a safe space where smart contracts can be deployed, bugs can be identified, and upgrades can be trialed before reaching a live environment.

🧪 Why Testnets Matter

Risk-Free Testing: Mistakes on the mainnet can cost millions. Testnets provide a cost-free environment to test contracts and transactions without real-world consequences.

Accelerating Innovation: Developers can try new protocols, dApps, and improvements faster and more freely, encouraging creativity and rapid iteration.

Community Engagement: Many blockchains reward users for participating in testnets (e.g., running nodes, finding bugs) with future mainnet tokens through airdrops.

Network Stress Testing: Testnets help simulate heavy traffic to identify weaknesses, scalability issues, and performance bottlenecks.

Types of Testnets

Real-World Use Case

Imagine a new DeFi protocol is about to launch a lending platform. Before deploying on Ethereum mainnet, the developers test on Goerli to:

In the fast-evolving world of blockchain technology, developers, investors, and enthusiasts frequently come across the term “TestNet Snapshot.” While it might sound like another technical jargon, it plays a crucial role in the blockchain ecosystem. But what exactly is a TestNet Snapshot, and why should you care? Let’s break it down.

Understanding a TestNet Snapshot

A TestNet Snapshot is a recorded state of a blockchain’s TestNet at a specific point in time. The TestNet itself is a duplicate or simulation of the main blockchain (MainNet) that developers use to test new features, smart contracts, and updates before deploying them live. The snapshot captures critical data, including account balances, transaction history, and other blockchain-related activities at that exact moment.

Think of it like taking a high-resolution picture of a blockchain’s current state. This frozen image allows developers and testers to work with data from that point forward, helping them analyze past transactions and interactions.

Why Does a TestNet Snapshot Matter?

1. Essential for Airdrops and Rewards

Many blockchain projects conduct airdrops based on TestNet participation. A snapshot ensures that early adopters and testers get rewarded based on their activity before the TestNet resets or transitions into a new phase.

2. Ensures Smooth Upgrades and Hard Forks

Blockchain protocols frequently upgrade, and a snapshot allows developers to migrate data seamlessly. If a new version of the TestNet needs to be launched, a snapshot helps maintain consistency and prevents data loss.

3. Detects Bugs and Enhances Security

Snapshots provide developers with historical data that helps in troubleshooting issues and ensuring that updates do not introduce vulnerabilities. If a bug arises, they can revert to a previous state and analyze changes more effectively.

4. Supports Validator and Staking Rewards

For blockchain networks relying on Proof-of-Stake (PoS) or similar consensus mechanisms, TestNet snapshots help distribute staking rewards and track validator activities.

5. Acts as a Backup and Reference Point

By taking a snapshot, blockchain projects can keep a reference point before implementing major changes. This acts as a safeguard in case of unintended consequences from an update.

How TestNet Snapshots Impact Users and Developers

For users, participating in a TestNet can sometimes lead to future rewards if the project decides to distribute tokens based on past contributions. Keeping track of snapshots helps ensure that your contributions don’t go unnoticed.

For developers, TestNet snapshots are invaluable for debugging, optimizing blockchain performance, and ensuring the stability of smart contracts before they hit the real-world economy.

Final Thoughts

TestNet snapshots are more than just frozen images of a blockchain. They are a powerful tool for ensuring network security, stability, and reward distribution. Whether you are a developer testing new protocols or an early adopter participating in a project’s TestNet, understanding snapshots can give you an edge in the ever evolving blockchain space.

Blast API Mainnet Launch has been done. After two years of development, and a successful Testnet Program, Bware Labs brings about a new generation of blockchain APIs with the mainnet launch of their flagship product, Blast!

Blast’s journey towards decentralization started with the Houston Incentivized Testnet, a program created to bring the platform to the level of sustainability and security needed for maintaining best-in-industry performance after full decentralization.

The purpose of the Testnet

The purpose of the testnet was to verify all the technical aspects involved in the decentralization of the Blast API Platform. It also includes the Integrity and Staking protocols, scoring algorithm and in-house built proxy all of which should allow Blast to keep its superior performance within the industry even after decentralization. At the same time, Houston Testnet onboarded and prepared Node Providers for the mainnet launch while giving them the option to earn the necessary funds to join the platform in its production state.

Successful Program and Stress Testing

According to Bware Labs the program was beyond successful, as by the end of the Stress Testing period, Blast recorded an average throughput beyond 40000 RPS. The estimated initial throughput that will be supported on the mainnet revolves around 100k RPS With the launch of Blast’s mainnet, the speed and reliability of the API platform will rely mainly on the Proof of Quality mechanism, which refers to enabling node owners to join the Blast Protocol in a permissionless manner as Node Providers, provided that their nodes can satisfy the platform’s performance and data integrity standards.

Moreover, according to Bware Labs CEO Flavian Manea, Mainnet brings the chance for the community to participate in the protocol by delegating the company’s INFRA tokens to available staking pools.

Node Providers will thus have to stake tokens in order to participate in Blast’s protocol, other users can delegate to a Node Provider from within Blast’s delegation explorer, an easy-to-use web interface available at explorer in order to earn an APY. Last but not least, the governance mechanism for future development initiatives and improvements of Blast and its Decentralized Infrastructure Protocol will also rely on Blast’s token holders as well.

“The biggest challenge is being true to your word when it comes to what you want to bring to the table. Maintaining industry-level standards in terms of quality while running the platform in a decentralized manner is no easy feat. In order to tackle that we had to find our own routes and methods, that could ensure that the nodes on Blast present the required performance and that would not prohibit the scalability potential of Blast. Now, decentralization is in sight — all hands on deck lads, let’s launch this ship!”—Bware Labs CEO Flavian Manea

ABOUT Blast

Blast is a blockchain API platform that provides easy blockchain access to the most relevant networks in the space. Using Blast, developers are able to get RPC, REST and WebSocket access to an ever-growing number of blockchain networks in just a couple of simple steps.

Website | Twitter

Zeta Chain enables omnichain interoperability. ZETA Chain is a blockchain platform that aims to provide a secure, decentralized, and open-source infrastructure for the deployment of decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts.
What is the token of Zeta CHAIN?

The token of the ZETA Chain is ZETA. It is a cryptocurrency that empowers the ZETA Chain ecosystem. The ZETA token is use for transactions, paying for gas fees for smart contract execution, and for staking. The process of holding ZETA tokens in a wallet to support the network and earn rewards.

The ZETA token is now available on some cryptocurrency exchanges. It can also use to purchase goods and services from merchants that accept it as a form of payment.

NOTE: It is important to note that the tokenomics, supply, and distribution may vary depending on the organization behind the project. Please check the official documentation or whitepaper of ZETA Chain for more information.

How did Zeta Chain enable ominichain interoperability?

ZETA Chain enables interoperability through its use of the Cosmos SDK and the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol. The Cosmos SDK is an open-source framework for building blockchain networks, and the IBC protocol is a mechanism for allowing different blockchain networks to communicate and transfer assets between them.

By using the Cosmos SDK and IBC protocol, ZETA Chain allows for the creation of a “hub and spoke” network. ZETA Chain acts as the hub and other blockchains can connect to it as spokes. This allows for seamless interoperability between different blockchain networks, as assets transfer easily between them using the IBC protocol.

Additionally, ZETA Chain has also implemented a cross-chain bridge. It allows different blockchain networks to interact with each other in a more convenient way. This bridge also allows the transfer of data and assets between different networks. It can also facilitate the exchange of digital assets and information, and also enables decentralized finance (DeFi) and other cross-chain interactions.

ZetaChain’s Approach to Blockchain Interoperability

The next standard for blockchain interoperability combines cross-chain messaging and the advent of native Omnichain Smart Contracts. While cross-chain messaging provides an asynchronous pattern of building and makes sense for some applications, Omnichain Smart Contracts provide a more synchronous way of building, as if everything were on one chain.

Together, these systems enable the creation of true omnichain dApps. Omnichain dApps span all chains by default and can access and manage assets and data on connected networks from a single point of logic. With this toolkit, developers have the full creative ability to build complex, yet (to users) drastically simplified user experiences that leverage unified access to liquidity and data. In this paradigm, all wallets, networks, and assets abstracts away from the end user. Transactions happen in a single step with no wrapping, and they immediately settle as if everything were on a single chain.

Today, ZetaChain is the only decentralized, public L1 blockchain that supports this complete toolkit for generic omnichain programmability. Developers can build using both synchronous (Omnichain Smart Contracts) and asynchronous (Cross-Chain Messaging) architectures, or a combination of both. ZetaChain is chain and layer agnostic, meaning ZetaChain can even enable Bitcoin smart contracts. This capability looks and feels much like Ethereum where a smart contract trust manages assets according to predetermines rules. The difference with ZetaChain is that a smart contract can do this for any data/asset on any blockchain. For information, kindly deep dive into this thread to know how ZetaChain makes its platform more secure.

The ZETA Chain Testnet

The ZETA Chain testnet is a version of the ZETA Chain blockchain that use for testing and development purposes. It allows developers to test their dApps and smart contracts on the ZETA Chain platform before they deploy on the mainnet.

The testnet is usually a replica of the mainnet, but with some differences. The tokens used in it are not valuable and the network is less stable and secure.

It also allows developers to experiment with different configurations and features of the ZETA Chain platform without risking tangible assets or affecting the performance of the mainnet.

The testnet can be useful for developers to test and debug their dApps and for businesses to test their integration with the ZETA Chain platform. It is use for security testing, network performance testing, and testing new updates or upgrades to the ZETA Chain platform.

Introducing the ZETA Chain & Galxe NFT Airdrop Program

Airdrops are a common way for blockchain projects to distribute tokens to users and incentivize engagement with the platform. ZETA Chain may conduct airdrops as a way to distribute tokens to its community.

Furthermore, ZetaChain integrates into the Web3 Credential Data Network Galxe and launches an NFT campaign for interoperable connectivity.

Here are the steps on how to join the Zeta Chain NFT Drop Campaign:

ZetaChain is the foundational, public blockchain that enables omnichain, generic smart contracts and messaging between any blockchain.

ZetaChain had successful deployed there devnet and also had closed of an initial seed funding round which includes investments from early Coinbase and Binance employees including Dan Romero, Sam Rosenblum, and John Yi, as well major contributors to some of the industry’s most widely adopted protocols and well known funds, including Polygon’s JD Kanani and HwiSang Kim former CIO of Hashed; advisors on the project include Nathalie McGrath, who, as Coinbase’s first Head of People, scaled the industry leading exchange from a team of just 10 to over 800 employees, and Juan Suarez, who served as in-house counsel for Coinbase from 2013 until 2022.

ZetaChain’s omnichain smart contract blockchain will prove to be beneficial for a number of reasons. Below are a few key use value propositions:

Trust-minimized cross-chain asset and data transfer with very low fees

Externally-managed smart contract capabilities for chains like Bitcoin & Dogecoin

No wrapping of assets or bridges are needed to transfer values cross-chain

Multichain NFTs, DAOs, governance, identity, etc.

Seamless multichain DeFi; lending, staking, yield farming, etc.

DApp developers can add multichain functionality by simply implementing a few functions into their existing smart contracts, enabling omnichain-dApps, or odApps

Users can natively swap assets to and from Klaytn and other connected chains on the ZetaLabs testnet now.

Klaytn is the bridge that connects Web2 enterprises to Web3. It is a public blockchain focused on the metaverse, gamefi, and the creator economy. Backed by South Korean internet giant Kakao Corp, Klaytn is now undergoing global expansion from its international base in Singapore.

Klaytn partnered with Zetachain few month back, the Klaytn-ZetaChain partnership will produce an ecosystem of more versatile cross-chain applications such as a cross-chain swap, DEX, multichain NFTs, and more. These applications will bring much greater liquidity and capital efficiency for transferring native assets between chains.

ZetaChain’s integration into Klaytn will enable KLAY developers to bring full interoperability to existing and new smart contracts.

ZetaEVM (zEVM) and the ZRC-20 Standard

ZetaEVM (zEVM) is a module on top of the ZetaChain network that allows users to create and deploy EVM-compatible Omnichain Smart Contracts, which can read, write, or manage data and liquidity on any connected chain from a single place. A new standard called ZRC-20 allows Omnichain Smart Contracts to manage native assets on connected chains. With ZRC-20, developers can build applications that use and transact native fungible tokens such as Bitcoin, ERC-20s, and Gas Assets, all on a single chain.

Bitcoin Support

With Omnichain Smart Contracts and ZRC-20, developers can now deploy contracts on ZetaChain that control Bitcoin natively. In other words, ZetaChain supports Bitcoin smart contracts. On top of this, ZetaChain supports smart contracts that orchestrate not only Bitcoin, but also Bitcoin together with assets and data from other chains. Now, you can trade and use Bitcoin with any assets in the DeFi world without wrapping.

What does this mean for developers and users?

One Contract For All Chains:

Omnichain Smart Contracts significantly lower development overhead and simpler security profile. Instead of recreating the wheel of messaging architectures, you can experience the simplicity of building on Ethereum with access to assets on any chain. You also only have one contract to manage as opposed to deploying and maintaining contracts across every chain you want to support.

Less Fees:

Users experience reduced gas fees because the single contract you control and use to transact manages multiple native tokens. Complex logic in contracts on ZetaChain can orchestrate assets across all connected external chains through simple transfers, which minimizes total gas expenditure and slippage.

Better, Safer User Experience:

Instead of waiting for different messages to pass and sync between separate chains, transaction logic occurs atomically on ZetaChain. The result is lower slippage, better guarantees for users, lower attack surface, and less susceptibility to race conditions or time constraints. This also means truly single-step transactions UX (and fees) in the user experience, even when operating across many chains.

Start Testing and Building

Users can test how Bitcoin Support, ZRC-20, and Omnichain Smart Contracts work together in ZetaLabs here. For developers, start building on ZetaChain using the developer documentation.

ZetaChain will transition from Proof-of-Authority consensus to Proof-of-Stake model over time; the protocol is based on the Cosmos SDK and utilizes the Tendermint Consensus mechanism. The team behind ZetaChain are especially focused on providing the best possible developer experience and aim to make building on the ZetaChain protocol a streamlined and familiar experience for developers already familiar with building on other platforms.

About ZetaChain

ZetaChain is the foundational layer to a truly multichain future; the blockchain’s novel approach creates a truly fluid crypto-ecosystem that will enable more users, developers, and traders than ever to onboard, use, and take advantage of the benefits of crypto. ZetaChain’s blockchain enables multichain functionality without using bridges or wrapped tokens and enables the easy deployment of omnichain-dApps, or odApps, that can manage and connect data and value across all smart contract platforms as well as non-smart contract platforms like Bitcoin and Dogecoin.

DIA oracles integration with Neon Network’s testnet, will bring 20.000+ tokens and NFT price feeds to the EVM solution on Solana.

Introducing Neon

Neon is a Solana software environment that acts as a gateway for Ethereum-based applications to access Solana’s scalability and liquidity without changing their codebase. Because Neon supports the full Ethereum Virtual Machine — EVM — it allows Ethereum native developers to use familiar tools and resources while benefiting from Solana’s ability to process transactions quickly and at lower fees.

Solana’s speed, security, and low gas fees, combined with EVM support, make it an appealing combination for the Neon network, which currently supports a throughput of 2.000+ TPS and gas at 0.000015 SOL / tx.

Neon worked hard to ensure that the EVM is as simple to use as possible. Users can connect to Neon using wallets that support custom RPC APIs, giving them an Ethereum-like user experience. Existing Ethereum dApps can launch on Neon without requiring any changes to their codebase, making it the only EVM that enables the deployment of Ethereum dApps on Solana’s ecosystem.

Introducing the DIA Data Library to Neon

DIA has integrated its open-source Oracle infrastructure with the Neon testnet network. This new update allows Neon developers to begin developing and testing a wide range of DeFi and NFTfi applications that rely on high-quality, transparent, and crowd-sourced price data feeds. The mainnet will be integrated as soon as it goes live, which is expected on December 12, 2022.

Because of Neon Network’s EVM compatibility, Ethereum native applications can be easily migrated to the Solana ecosystem with no code changes, where DIA can feed them with accurate and transparent market data. This will enable DIA to power dApps on Neon EVM with a variety of DeFi use cases such as stablecoins, staking, and mining.

Ethereum-based projects can, for the first time, tap into the previously inaccessible audience and liquidity of Solana without needing to rewrite their code in Rust. As a result, users will now get to enjoy enhanced user experiences on Solana without losing out on Ethereum’s battle-tested dApps.”

How Does DIA Function?

With the deployment of DIA’s data and Oracle infrastructure, dApps on Neon Network’s EVM-compatible ecosystem will have access to price feeds of 3k+ digital assets and 18k+ NFT collections, as well as a variety of lending rates, FX rates, and other data feeds. This will allow Neon Network to support applications other than DeFi and NFTfi.

Because DIA does not rely on outside data suppliers, its proprietary open-source Oracle infrastructure distinguishes it from other Web3 data solutions. In order to create price oracles, DIA crowdsources trade data at a very granular level from both off-chain and on-chain sources.

DIA’s architecture enables the creation of custom token and NFT price feeds for each dApp and use case, with pricing methodologies, data sources, and other factors such as oracle update mechanism, frequency, and more completely customizable. DIA’s strategy allows it to meet any unique data and asset requirements a project may have while also providing users with complete transparency into how the data feeds are created.

Michael Weber, DIA Co-Founder mentions:

Their effort to make Neon compatible with Ethereum certainly is an exciting vision, and we are thrilled to see DIA help their network flourish. With the security and speed of Solana, together with the low cost of Neon, we could see a great inflow of new apps and users, and we would be more than happy to kickstart their development on the Neon network.”

Cronos is thrilled to announce the launch of the Gravity Bridge Testnet “Pioneer 11”. The Crypto. com-backed chain aims to connect the Ethereum network with the bridge.

The Pioneer 11 Testnet

Cronos has confirmed the deployment of its Cronos Gravity Bridge testnet.

Referred to as Pioneer 11, the Gravity Bridge is built to function as a “decentralized bridge between Cronos and the Ethereum mainnet.”

In its announcement, Cronos noted that the Pioneer 11 testnet differs from the official Cronos testnet. Since, it was built specifically for testing if the Cronos Gravity Bridge would connect to the Ethereum Goerli testnet.

About the Cronos Gravity Bridge

In developing its Gravity Bridge testnet, the Cronos Chain engaged the use of Cosmos’ gravity bridge technology. This technology facilitates the transfer of ERC20 cryptocurrency tokens from and to Ethereum through a mint/lock mechanism.

Built with the aid of Cosmos’ PeggyJV gravity bridge project, Cronos’ Gravity Bridge testnet aims to allow the transfer of ERC20 cryptocurrency tokens and CRC20 tokens from and to the Ethereum network and the Cronos network using a similar mint/lock mechanism.

Put simply, here is how the Cronos Chain’s Gravity Bridge Testnet works:

When a user sends assets from Ethereum to Cronos, the corresponding ERC20 token is locked in a smart contract on the Ethereum side and minted on the Cronos side in the form of a CRC20 token.

When a user sends assets from Cronos to Ethereum, the corresponding CRC20 token is burned on the Cronos side, and the ERC20 token is released on the Ethereum side.

About Pioneer 11

In its announcement, the Cronos Chain further noted that Pioneer 11 consists of the following:

Solidity Smart Contract: This smart contract is called “CronosGravity.sol” housed on the Ethereum testnet and holds the native ERC20 assets sent across the bridge.

Orchestrators and Relayer(s): These are networks in charge of synchronizing the state of the Ethereum Goerli testnet and Cronos Gravity Bridge testnet. Fully decentralized, the orchestrators will be run by Cronos Validators. Relayer(s), on the other hand, is charged with sending signed updates to the Gravity Bridge contract on Ethereum.

Cosmos SDK Module: Subject to an agreement among the Cronos validators, a Cosmos SDK module will be deployed to handle the minting of assets at the Cosmos layer of the Cronos chain.

Cronos Hook Module: This will allow the automatic conversion between the assets at the Cosmos layer of the Cronos chain. And the equivalent assets at the EVM (Ethereum compatible) layer of the Cronos chain.

About Cronos

Cronos  is  the first Cosmos EVM chain for DeFi, NFTs, and Metaverse. It aims to massively scale the DeFi ecosystem. By providing developers with the ability to rapidly port apps from Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains. With funding from Cronos Labs’s $100m ecosystem fund.
