StellaSwap partnership with Beefy. Beefy will officially enter the concentrated liquidity market by being the first active liquidity management protocol on Moonbeam, focused on supporting StellaSwap’s concentrated liquidity AMM, Pulsar.

This has been at works for several months now, with Beefy finalizing their ALM infrastructure in tandem with the development of Pulsar, the first concentrated liquidity on Moonbeam and the wider Polkadot ecosystem.

Concentrated Liquidity: Highly-Efficient AMM

Spearheaded by Uniswap’s V3 AMM model, concentrated liquidity (CL) has proven to be the most efficient DEX model so far. Right now, the most predominant AMMs are variations of concentrated liquidity deployed by several top DEXes: Uniswap V3, Quickswap V3 on Polygon, Orca on Solana, Trader Joe’s liquidity book on Avalanche, and more. In fact, six out of the top ten biggest DEXes in DeFi has deployed a concentrated liquidity AMM.

That is why StellaSwap decided to launch Pulsar, their own variation of CL that is powered by Algebra. With Pulsar, we’ll allow liquidity providers (LPs) to ‘concentrate’ their liquidity in specific price ranges to maximize capital efficiency. LPs who provide deeper liquidity for ranges where trades actually occur will earn a higher share of trade fees. Here’s detailed breakdown on Pulsar.

The Need for Active Liquidity Management for Concentrated Liquidity

The exponential growth of CL AMMs, both in terms of total value locked (TVL) and volume, has led to a significant demand for active liquidity management (ALMs). ALMs are protocols that serve to address the following issues that are present in CL AMMs;

• Complex: Although CL AMMs provide greater capital efficiency vs standard AMMs, it is more complex to manage. This is because users must understand the different liquidity ranges, their associated risks and deploy their capital with more steps.
• Higher Impermanent Loss: The ability to concentrate liquidity entails greater risk of impermanent loss. If the market price goes beyond users’ established price ranges, then they would face maximum IL. Users must be cognizant of their risk appetite and provide liquidity accordingly.
• Active Management: In order for users to mitigate against IL, they must be active in manually managing their CL positions. This means constantly supervising positions to ensure that current prices do not go beyond the established ranges, else they face the risk of maximum IL.
• Increased Resources for Projects: Projects looking to manage their own liquidity and engage in market-making activities will need to expand more time and resources under a CL environment.

An ALM is focused on active management for CL AMMs so that they can maximize fees generation, minimize impermanent loss and automate the process of rebalancing users’ positions. This means that users can ‘outsource’ the active management of their liquidity on Pulsar in a trustless manner.

Why Wormhole

A tremendous amount of resources was expanded internally as well as across the ecosystem to evaluate the next steps for Moonbeam post-Nomad exploit. This was manifested in StellaSwap’s bridging framework that outlined the key parameters that are useful for evaluating bridges for the ecosystem.

The selection of Wormhole was based on two major considerations;

1. Moonwell Governance Vote: Moonwell community governance enabled the broader Moonbeam ecosystem, including StellaSwap, to poll users for their bridge preference through a snapshot vote on the preferred bridge. Wormhole was the overwhelming favourite, amassing 66% of the total votes.
2. Security & Financial Coverage as the Over-Arching Factors: The second major consideration was our own internal evaluation of the most optimal bridge choice based on our analysis, which pointed to Wormhole based on two main factors; security and financial coverage. As StellaSwap was at ground 0 for Nomad’s exploit, we fully understood the need for a robust security framework and the importance of financial coverage in making users whole in the event of an exploit.

Security must be discussed from a larger spectrum of elements that is beyond architectural logic but also, and equally, emphasised on various other vectors that included operational processes, safeguard mechanisms, audit coverage (full audit, continual audit & bounty), incident control and testing SOPs (for deployments). The comprehensiveness of “security” must be explore in detail for each component to ensure a proper evaluation of security prowess, and Wormhole edges out in aggregate. This will be discuss in the security section below.

There was also a concession that was highlight in framework that exploits/hacks may be undeniable in the world of DeFi. Therefore another core pillar discussed was financial coverage. This exact point was presumably a major factor by participants in the Moonwell governance process. There was no ‘lender of last resorts’ to backstop user losses. This insurance coverage — besides a robust security framework — played a strong part in why Wormhole was regarded as a credible & strong bridge option.

Wormhole Portal’s Farm Launch

The following strategic assets will be re-launch on StellaSwap with Wormhole’s assets that include;

• USDC
• ETH
• WBTC
• BUSD

Given that the ecosystem will revert to business-as-usual (BAU), the above strategic farms — together with other native farms such as DOT — would need to be the first priority, especially for critical protocols like Moonwell, that has conceived the plan for deprecating Nomad assets and is awaiting for sufficient liquidity to open other non-native markets.

Besides the aforementioned farms, we will collaborate closely with Wormhole to support other assets across other chains.

Utilizing Ecosystem Grants to Spearhead Growth & Liquidity

What Situation is Cover?

The insurance cover available for StellaSwap users on InsurAce pertains to smart contract vulnerability, up to a limit of $1.5 million USD. Specifically, InsurAce covers smart contract risks, where the designated smart contract means a single smart contract or group of smart contracts, as specified in the Cover, running on the public blockchain network, and excluding any outside inputs to that system such as oracles, miners, and individuals or groups of individuals interacting with the system.

Insurance Exclusion

It is important to note that the insurance coverage does not cover the following scenarios;

• Losses due to phishing, private key security breaches, malware, etc.
• Losses due to devaluation of assets, regardless if such devaluation is related to the Attack
• Hacks occurring during the Cover Period, but the hack/bug occur or was known before the Cover Period
• Losses which were due to the Specified Protocol’s Operator(s) confiscating or stealing funds (rugpulls)
• Losses due to movements in the market price of asset value
• Assets lost are not verifiable on-chain, NFTs or any thatare associated with any illegal, prohibited or restricted activity.
• Any events where any other external interoperable or interactive smart contracts are hacked or manipulated in an unintended way, while the Designated smart contract continues to operate as intended
• Any event where external inputs are manipulated, while the Designated smart contract continues to operate as intended
• The insured provided false information or tried to hide, lie, or mislead claim assessment
