Cosmos and Astar (Polkadot) Bridge Is Coming Soon
Octopus Network has delivered the first milestone of a bridge implementation between Cosmos and Astar Network. Astar Network aims to be a multichain, multi-VM smart contract hub on Polkadot that connects multiple L1 blockchains. Recently, thanks to Octopus Network’s amazing work, the whole Cosmos ecosystem is going to connect with Polkadot through Astar Network.
Octopus Network is a grant recipient in the Astar Builders Program. The Astar core team and Octopus team have worked together to make Polkadot and Cosmos interoperable. We plan to deliver a production-ready bridge between Polkadot and Cosmos in Q1, 2022.
Previously, Astar Network has already implemented a testnet bridge with Secret Network, a Cosmos SDK-based blockchain. However, this testnet bridge is EVM-based, meaning that only blockchains supporting both EVM and Cosmos SDK are compatible with this testnet bridge.
As major technical achievement, the Octopus team is building a more versatile bridge on top of Astar Network, allowing ALL Cosmos SDK-based blockchains to interact with Astar and connect with the Polkadot ecosystem through Astar.
About Astar
Astar Network (previously known as Plasm) is a dApp hub on Polkadot that supports Ethereum, WebAssembly, and layer 2 solutions like ZK Rollups. Astar aims to be a multi-chain smart contract platform that will support multiple blockchains and virtual machines. Polkadot Relay Chain doesn’t support smart contracts. That’s why it’s important for the ecosystem to have a parachain that enables this for all developers who want to build in the Polkadot ecosystem. Astar is here to provide the best solution for all developers by supporting EVM and making a parachain where EVM and WASM smart contracts can co-exist and communicate with each other.
About Octopus Network
Octopus Network is a multichain cryptonetwork for launching and running Web3.0 application-specific blockchains — appchains. Appchains in the Octopus Network benefit from flexible and cost-effective leased security (LPoS), out-of-the-box multichain interoperability, complete infrastructure, and a ready-to-be-engaged community. The Octopus Development Team has successfully built IBC for Substrate and has cooperated with many public chain projects in R&D building cross-chain bridges in particular.
